Ukrainian Military tried unsuccessfully to hijack a Russian plane in 2022.
Ukrainian fighters tried to recruit a Russian pilot and persuade him to hijack the plane, landing him in Ukraine.
The pilot was supposed to simulate an accident in front of the Russians, fly into the airspace of Ukraine at the agreed time and land on July 23 in Kanatovo Airbase near Kropyvnytskyi.
He would have been captured and received a cash payment.
But, the pilot did not arrive.
That morning, Kanatovo Airbase was targeted by Russian forces.
Commander of the military unit was killed. 17 fighters were injured, 2 combat aircraft and the runway were completely destroyed.
SBU opened criminal proceedings under the articles "treason" and "abuse of power."
