Indian refiners are buying prompt Russian crude cargoes as the Iran conflict disrupts Middle East supplies.

India imports about 40% of its oil through the Strait of Hormuz and holds roughly 25 days of crude stocks, leaving it vulnerable to supply shocks.

State refiners — including Indian Oil, BPCL, HPCL, and MRPL — have purchased around 20 million barrels of Russian oil from traders.

India had reduced Russian purchases earlier under U.S. pressure, but refiners are returning to the market as availability becomes more critical than price.
