The Trump administration's willingness to attack Iran before the elections — without fearing a spike in oil prices — is attributed to having already secured Venezuelan oil.

The U.S. can purchase 1 million barrels per day from Venezuela at $40/barrel, a volume that could scale up to 3 million barrels.

Given that total U.S. daily oil imports stand at 6.5 million barrels, any price surge from the Iran conflict can be offset by cheap Venezuelan crude. Part of the export revenue can also be redirected domestically to keep costs down.

This is likely why the Trump administration moved to bring Venezuela into its orbit before taking on Iran.

As for the Gulf states, they will compensate for wartime economic losses through rising oil prices.
