NEW: Before the U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran, the CIA assessed that if Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei were killed, he would likely be replaced by hardline elements from the IRGC rather than triggering regime change.

The reports did not reach firm conclusions but suggested military action was unlikely to produce a moderate leadership shift.

President Trump monitored the situation overnight at Mar a Lago alongside members of his national security team. The President spoke with Prime Minister Netanyahu by phone.
