When he lost in 2020, I think it broke something in him. I think he could not believe that he had been turned out, which is why he instigated the attack on our Capitol and why, to this day, he denies the facts of that election.

I don’t know whether it was some psychic wound that he cannot heal, or whether he physically and mentally has become so obsessed that he can’t really live in the truth based on evidence. I don’t know the answer.

We speculate about it a lot, because his language, his physical behavior — there are things going on with him that are very different than they were 10 years ago.

NEW: Syrian security forces are nearing entry into Sweida, according to local officials.

Sweida’s internal security chief said the move is meant to restore order, not retaliate.

"The entry is aimed at restoring the rule of law and protecting residents — not revenge.

Accountability will be through the law, not chaos. Sweida will remain a city of dignity."

Sources say the operation could target forces loyal to Druze cleric Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri, possibly leading to a deal to dissolve the “National Guard” in exchange for concessions.

A regional Druze figure reportedly told local leaders that Israel would not support the creation of an independent state, and that “their destination will be Damascus.”
