Sanae Takaichi has been reappointed Prime Minister of Japan after her party won a historic landslide in the February 8 snap election.

Her party, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), won 316 of 465 seats, a rare two-thirds supermajority on its own.

With coalition partner Japan Innovation Party, the ruling bloc holds 352 seats.

She now has strong legislative power, including the ability to override the upper house.

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum rejects direct participation in Donald Trump’s newly created “Board of Peace” initiative on Gaza.

Mexico will participate only as an observer.

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum:

We will continue sending humanitarian aid — food and other assistance that the Cuban people need.

For now, we will not send fuel. We do not agree with imposing tariffs on countries that sell oil to Cuba.

We believe in the self-determination of peoples. It is the Cuban people who must decide how they are governed.

There must be no interference or intervention by anyone else.

Polish PM Tusk:

Poland does not foresee participation in President Trump’s Peace Council. If a Polish representative goes to Washington, it will only be as an observer.

Poland will not send Polish soldiers to the Gaza Strip. We have our own security problems — everyone knows what the Polish army is focused on.

Poland is not interested in co-financing development projects in Gaza.

Our money is needed for investments in Polish cities.

When he lost in 2020, I think it broke something in him. I think he could not believe that he had been turned out, which is why he instigated the attack on our Capitol and why, to this day, he denies the facts of that election.

I don’t know whether it was some psychic wound that he cannot heal, or whether he physically and mentally has become so obsessed that he can’t really live in the truth based on evidence. I don’t know the answer.

We speculate about it a lot, because his language, his physical behavior — there are things going on with him that are very different than they were 10 years ago.
