India approved a massive ₹3.6 lakh crore (around $40 billion) defense acquisition package, one of the largest in its history.

The centerpiece is the procurement of 114 Rafale fighter jets for the Indian Air Force.

Around 18 would be delivered directly from France, while roughly 96 would be manufactured in India under the “Make in India” program.

The package also includes additional combat missiles (such as Scalp), six Boeing P-8I maritime patrol aircraft for the Navy, anti-tank missiles for the Army, and a high-altitude surveillance airship system.
