JD Vance on Greenland:

Greenland matters to American national security because our entire missile defense relies on security in the Arctic.

If a foreign country launched a missile at the United States of America, we would need control over the Arctic in order to shoot that missile down. Our entire missile defense system depends on that Arctic security.

The Chinese and the Russians and even the Danes who control Greenland want to control that facility and that land mass. That would make us weaker. That would make our country more endangered.

It would mean that if the President were negotiating with a foreign leader, he would have less leverage because they could realistically threaten the sovereignty and territorial safety of the United States of America.

We’re not going to let that happen.

JD Vance on Greenland:

When Trump sets his mind to accomplish something in negotiation, he accomplishes it.

JD Vance:

We’re going to reward companies for investing in the U.S. and penalize companies for trying to invest in communist China and places all over the world.

JD Vance:

We want commerce between Russia and Ukraine.

What must be concluded is that when Europe reacts in a united way, using the instruments it has at its disposal when it is threatened, it can make itself respected, and that is a very good thing.

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen:

Nobody other than Greenland and Denmark have the mandate to make deals or agreements about Greenland. That’s not going to happen.

In terms of the deal being talked about, I don’t know what is concrete in that deal, but I know that we now have a high-level working group working on a solution for both parties.

Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen:

We have said from the beginning that we have some red lines. We cannot cross those red lines. We have to respect our territorial integrity. We have to respect international law and sovereignty.

We are ready to cooperate more in economics and other areas, but that is something we have to discuss in mutual respect.

If you want to exploit our resources, you have to respect our legislation and our very high environmental standards, because that is part of who we are and part of our culture.

I don’t know what is in the agreement or the deal about my country, as those discussions I didn’t attend. I don’t know what is concrete in it.

What I’m saying is that we have a high-level working group that will sort things out.
