Reporter: The Danish Foreign Minister rejected your call to negotiate on Greenland.

Trump: I didn’t call him.

Reporter: He essentially said that this is not something that they are willing to discuss.

Trump: Well, they didn’t tell me that. So when they tell me — ’cause I don’t like getting it secondhand — if he wants to tell me, he’ll tell me that to my face.

Reporter: And when will you be discussing this?

Trump: I have no idea... I’ll be discussing it with this man right here, he is frankly more important.

Reporter: When you said you would remember if Denmark did not agree to a deal on Greenland, what did you mean? What are the consequences?

Trump: You’ll have to figure that out for yourself. You’re a smart guy.

Reporter: Do you see a price for Greenland that’s reasonable?

Trump: I could see that. But there’s a bigger price, and that’s the price of safety and security...

Reporter: Is it reassuring to hear the NATO Secretary General say NATO will defend the United States if it comes under attack?

Trump: Well, I hope that that’s true. I mean, he’s a good man.

He’s never lied to me before. You know, we’ve had a good relationship, and he made that statement. That’s nice.

Trump on Greenland:

I want Greenland for security. I don’t want it for anything else. We have so much rare earth, we don’t know what to do with it. We don’t need it for anything else.

And in terms of Greenland, you know, you have to go 25 feet down through ice to get it. It’s not something that a lot of people are going to do or want to do. No, this is security we’re talking about.

Putin does math:

Regarding Greenland… well, this doesn’t concern us at all—what happens with Greenland.

But we do have experience in resolving similar issues with the United States in the 19th century, I believe in 1867. As we know, Russia sold Alaska, and the United States bought it from us.

If my memory serves me correctly, the area of Alaska is around 1,717,000 square kilometers—perhaps a bit more. And the United States bought Alaska from us for 7.2 million US dollars.

In today’s prices, taking inflation into account over all these decades, that amount would be about 158 million dollars.

The area of Greenland is somewhat larger—around 2,166,000 square kilometers, also perhaps a bit more. That’s a difference of roughly 450,000 square kilometers.

So if you compare this with the cost of the United States’ purchase of Alaska, then the price of Greenland would be somewhere around 200 to 250 million dollars.

Putin:

Russia is discussing with the United States the use of Russia’s frozen assets to restore territories affected by the fighting after a peace treaty between Russia and Ukraine is concluded.

Ukraine’s National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has charged Rostyslav Shurma, a former deputy chief of staff to Zelensky, with embezzlement and money laundering involving $3.3 million.

NABU says Shurma, his brother Oleh, and seven others fraudulently received state payments for solar power plants in occupied parts of Zaporizhzhia Oblast that were no longer producing electricity. The funds were allegedly obtained through Ukraine’s controversial “green tariff” renewable energy program.

Shurma served in the Presidential Office from 2021 to 2024. Both he and his brother are believed to be living abroad.
