Q: You recently joined the NATO alliance. Is it just in time for its dissolution?

President Stubb: No. I think we are in the process of creating a stronger NATO. This is pretty much NATO 3.0.

Q: Trump said he is no longer thinking purely about peace. Who or what can defuse the tensions?

Can Europe defend itself without the Americans? Yes...

Finnish President Stubb:

Can the Finnish military defend itself against a Russian attack? Yes.

NATO's Rutte:

NATO is structured in such a way that the United States, Canada, and European allies are completely integrated.

That does not mean the U.S. is coming to Europe’s rescue, or Europe is coming to the rescue of the United States.

We are working completely integrated.

I know many of you criticize Trump. But do you really think that, without Trump, eight big economies in Europe—including Spain, Italy, and Belgium—and Canada would have reached the two-percent defense spending target in 2025?

At the beginning of the year, they were at just 1.5 percent. Without Trump, this would never have happened. They are all at two percent now.

Finnish President Stubb on Ukraine-Russia:

NATO hasn’t entered the scene yet, and the Russians have not been able to advance as much as they expected over the past four years.

Finnish President Stubb:

Here we are, asking ourselves, “Are we able to defend ourselves?”

My answer is yes, we are.

NATO's Rutte:

Trump said last night that he was doubtful about whether Europeans would come to the rescue if Article 5 were triggered.

I told him yes, they will. They did after the 9/11 attacks—the only time Article 5 has been invoked.

I have no doubt that the US would come to the rescue here, and we would come to the rescue of the US.

We need each other for our collective protection.

NEW: Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan will represent Türkiye at the “Board of Peace” meeting in Davos.

Türkiye has agreed to join the “Board of Peace.”

Reports claim senior PKK/SDF commander Sipan Hamo was killed by drones of unknown nationality in Qamishli that targeted a meeting last night.

He was seen as the de facto leader of the PKK’s Syria wing.

Just days earlier, he publicly said:

“Israel is a powerful state in the region, and we hope that the stance it has taken to protect the Druze will also be extended to include the Kurds.”

On French TV, judge Magali Lafourcade revealed that people sent by the U.S. Embassy under the Trump administration came to her office during Marine Le Pen’s embezzlement trial, allegedly trying to frame it as a “purely political trial” to block Le Pen from running for president.

“Very quickly the conversation turned to Marine Le Pen’s trial.”

“The idea was to find elements showing this was a purely political trial.”

“I was so taken aback… that I did something I never do with foreign diplomats: I informed the French Foreign Office.”

“There is a political project behind all of this.”

Canada’s military has modeled how it would respond to a hypothetical U.S. invasion, after President Donald Trump publicly talked about the country as a “51st state.”

Planners assumed U.S. forces could overrun Canada in days, so defense would rely on asymmetric tactics like ambushes, sabotage, drones, hit-and-run, similar to past guerrilla warfare.
