Today I held a long, productive, and courteous telephone conversation with the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

It took place in a spirit of mutual respect, during which we discussed a bilateral work agenda for the benefit of our peoples, as well as pending issues in the relationship between our governments.

There is no absolute trust. For fourteen years, the SDF as an organization did not fight the Assad regime and instead maintained contact and balance with it.

They did not participate in the revolution and later moved to block its progress in places like Deir ez-Zor and Aleppo.

Trust is built over time. Our political steps were shared with the international community, and the SDF chose to stay absent from key processes. We gave nine months—how much longer should we wait?

Despite past harm, including attacks that killed civilians, the door remains open. Our aim has always been to save Syria without exclusion, build the state by international norms, and honor the March 10 agreement.

Syria faces a choice: build a state based on law and internationally recognized standards, with everyone participating, or remain divided into sects, ethnicities, and factions.

A unified, strong state requires setting aside personal and party interests and abandoning ideas—and weapons—that undermine state-building. No state in the world is built while uncontrolled armed forces exist.

Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa:

I cannot accept women and children being sent to hospitals every day because of shelling. No one would accept this.

Is there a neighborhood in Erbil run by armed groups that block law enforcement and hide behind labels? Of course not—so why should this situation continue?

All the signals are that a U.S. attack is imminent, but that is also how this administration behaves to keep everyone on their toes. Unpredictability is part of the strategy.
