BIG: Trump is threatening to imprison the Chairman of Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell.

Here's his response:

On Friday, the Department of Justice served the Federal Reserve with grand jury subpoenas, threatening a criminal indictment related to my testimony before the Senate Banking Committee last June.

That testimony concerned in part a multi-year project to renovate historic Federal Reserve office buildings.

I have deep respect for the rule of law and for accountability in our democracy. No one, certainly not the chair of the Federal Reserve, is above the law.

But this unprecedented action should be seen in the broader context of the administration’s threats and ongoing pressure.

This new threat is not about my testimony last June or about the renovation of the Federal Reserve buildings. Those are pretexts.

The threat of criminal charges is a consequence of the Federal Reserve setting interest rates based on our best assessment of what will serve the public, rather than following the preferences of the President.

Public service sometimes requires standing firm in the face of threats.

I will continue to do the job the Senate confirmed me to do, with integrity and a commitment to serving the American people.

Trump on Iran:

They’re starting to cross the red line, it looks like, and there seem to be some people killed that aren’t supposed to be killed.

These are violent—if you call them leaders, I don’t know if they’re leaders or just they rule through violence—but we’re looking at it very seriously.

The military is looking at it, and we’re looking at some very strong options. We’ll make a determination.

Trump:

If we don’t take Greenland, Russia or China will. And I’m not letting that happen.

I’d love to make a deal with them. It’s easier. But one way or the other, we’re going to have Greenland.

Senator Graham on Iran last night:

The reason I had was to cut the speech off a little bit... I don’t know why, but this might be the night.

It’s just a matter of time now. Just a matter of time.

This tyrannical regime needs to end. We need to end this for the good people of Iran and for our own selves, and for the people of Israel.

Trump on Denmark and Greenland:

Their defense is two dog sleds. Do you know that? You know what their defense is? Two dog sleds.

Trump on annexing Greenland:

If it affects NATO, then it affects NATO, but you know they need us much more than we need them. I will tell you that right now.

Trump on Greenland:

We’re talking about acquiring, not leasing, not having it short-term. We’re talking about acquiring.

And if we don’t do it, Russia or China will.

Trump:

I like NATO, you know. I just wonder whether or not, if we needed NATO, would they be there for us?

I’m not sure they would. You know, we spend a lot of money on NATO, and I’m not sure they would.

Reporter: Do you think Iran takes your threats seriously?

Trump: I think so. Don’t you think so, CNN? Don’t you think so? Wouldn’t you say they probably do take my threats seriously at this point?

After going through it for years with me—being hit Soleimani, al-Baghdadi, the Iran nuclear threat wiped out—don’t you think?

Wouldn’t you say they do after all of the things we’ve done? What a stupid question.

NEW: Iran has for the first time used military jamming to shut down Starlink satellite internet, extending its nationwide internet blackout beyond domestic networks.

One of the things I want taken care of, and one of the groups I want taken care of, are the people that came from Cuba that were forced out or left under duress.

Trump on Iran:

Some of the protesters were killed through the stampeding. I mean, you know there’s so many of them, and some were shot.

I’m getting an hourly report, and we’re going to make a determination.

Trump on Delcy Rodríguez:

At some point I’ll meet with her. Yeah, she’s been very good.

Look, she asked us, “Can we take 50 million barrels of oil?” And I said, yes, we can. It’s $4 billion—$4.2 billion—and it’s on its way right now to the United States.

Reporter: Iran said that they would consider military and commercial bases as legitimate targets if you struck. Are you concerned about that?

Trump: If they do that, we will hit them at levels that they’ve never been hit before.

They won’t even believe it. I have options that are so strong. So, I mean, if they did that, it’ll be met with a very, very powerful force.

Reporter: Is the administration in contact with Iranian opposition leaders as this is unfolding?

Trump: Yeah.

Reporter: What’s the message to them?

Trump: You’re going to find out pretty soon.

History matters. The U.S. defended Greenland’s sovereignty during WWII when Denmark couldn’t. After the war, Denmark re-occupied it—side stepping and ignoring UN protocol.

This should be about hospitality, not hostility.
