We already knew that the Americans had made an offer to Maduro: he could go wherever he wanted and hand power to whomever he chose, but they would not work with him.

They said they did not want to change the system, but warned that if he refused, they would escalate military action, especially against oil tankers.

We were never asked—officially or unofficially—to accept Maduro, nor did Maduro ever contact us about coming to Türkiye. No such proposal was made to us.

Venezuelan crude is a heavy oil — very good oil, great oil. It’s fantastic for certain uses, like asphalt roads.

If you don’t want to go in, just let me know — because there are 25 people not here today who are willing to take your place.

You were the only one who stayed there through it all. For all that time, I used to call you and say, “What the hell is going on with Venezuela?”
