Switzerland cannot defend itself against a full-scale attack and must increase military spending, according to Army Chief Thomas Suessli.

He said the country is ready for cyber and infrastructure attacks but lacks equipment for major warfare, with only about a third of soldiers fully outfitted.

Switzerland plans to raise defence spending to about 1% of GDP by 2032, still far below NATO levels. At the current pace, the military would not be fully ready until around 2050—“too late given the threat,” Suessli said.
