A knife-and-smoke-grenade attack hit central Taipei today, killing 3 civilians and injuring 5.

The suspect died after jumping from a building.

The attacker threw smoke grenades at Taipei Main Station, then moved to Zhongshan MRT and stabbed random people, including inside a busy bookstore/mall.

A 57-year-old man was killed while trying to intervene.

The suspect, a 27-year-old wanted man with prior offenses, fled police and jumped to his death.

Such attacks are rare in Taiwan.
