The U.S. is pressing Zelensky to quickly accept a peace plan that would require major territorial concessions to Russia, including the full Donbas region.

Kyiv believes the plan favors Moscow and says Washington is applying more pressure on Ukraine than on Putin.

The push intensified after Trump envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner met with Putin, then urged Zelensky to give an immediate “yes” on a follow-up call.

From the chants of the Syrian Army during a military march in Damascus on the first anniversary of Liberation Day:

Gaza, Gaza — our rallying cry,
Victory and steadfastness, night and day.
We rise against you, enemy, we rise,
From mountains of fire we make our way.
From my blood I forge my ammunition,
From your blood, rivers will flow.

M23 Rebels Build a Shadow State as Peace Claims Falter in Eastern Congo

M23 has tightened its hold over eastern Congo, expanding a parallel administration even as international actors promote new peace deals.

The rebel force has grown to at least 14,000 fighters and installed its own governors, mayors, border controls and tax systems — creating a de facto state beyond Kinshasa’s reach.

Their rule now spans key mineral-rich territories and strategic border crossings, where visas and tariffs are imposed directly by the group.

Despite U.S.-backed agreements, fighting continues on the ground, and experts warn the conflict risks becoming a lasting fracture.

Investigations also show M23 has seized dozens of mining sites, including Rubaya — a major global source of coltan.
