Ukraine’s Muslim community has raised concerns after SBU officers carried out an unannounced operation during Friday prayers at a central Kyiv mosque, disrupting the service and restricting access for worshippers, including diplomats from several Muslim-majority countries.

Community representatives say the action contradicts Ukraine’s commitment to religious freedom, noting the significant role Muslims have played since the full-scale invasion—providing humanitarian aid, sheltering displaced people, and serving in the Armed Forces.

They stress that the community has no ties to foreign religious structures and fear the incident may indicate renewed influence of pro-Russian actors.

Photos and videos circulating online, they warn, risk damaging Ukraine’s reputation in the Muslim world.
