Maduro asked for full legal amnesty for himself and his family, the lifting of U.S. sanctions on over 100 officials, and the closure of an International Criminal Court case against him.

He also proposed that Vice President Delcy Rodríguez lead an interim government before new elections.

Trump rejected most demands but gave Maduro one week to leave Venezuela with safe passage.

That deadline expired Friday, prompting Trump to announce the closure of Venezuelan airspace.

On a parking lot in Saxony-Anhalt, unknown perpetrators stole about 20,000 rounds of Bundeswehr ammunition from a civilian freight truck.

Canada has agreed to join the European Union’s Security Action for Europe (SAFE) initiative, giving Canadian defense firms greater access to EU markets.

The Russian tanker MIDVOLGA-2 reported an attack about 80 miles off Türkiye’s coast in the country’s Black Sea EEZ, marking the third such incident in the area.

U.S. officials say Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth authorized a lethal strike on a suspected drug-smuggling boat on Sept. 2 — an order to kill the people on the vessel and destroy the boat and cargo.

However, officials stressed that Hegseth’s order did not specify what to do if the first missile failed to kill everyone. It also did not address survivors or give instructions for additional strikes.

After the first missile hit and at least two people were seen alive, Adm. Frank Bradley, the Special Operations commander on scene, ordered several follow-up strikes.

Those strikes killed the survivors and sank the disabled boat.
