Microsoft has revoked the Israeli army’s Unit 8200 access to its Azure cloud services after a +972 Magazine, Local Call, and Guardian investigation revealed the unit stored millions of Palestinians’ intercepted calls on Microsoft servers for surveillance, arrests, and airstrikes.

Unit 8200 quickly moved data to Amazon Web Services, while Microsoft continues to work with other Israeli military units.

The move marks the first major US tech company to restrict Israeli military access amid growing public backlash over civilian deaths in Gaza.
