The Kremlin confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin would talk to U.S. President Donald Trump by phone on Tuesday.

Trump had said earlier that he planned to speak to Putin on Tuesday and discuss ending the war in Ukraine after what he said had been positive talks between Steve Witkoff, his special envoy, and Putin in Moscow.

Asked about the planned call, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: "Yes, that's how it is. Such a conversation is planned for Tuesday."

Kenyan forces launched a major operation after 100 al-Shabaab militants entered a village in the coastal town of Lamu and preached to residents.

Lamu chief Wesley Koech told local media Nation that the group entered the Mangai neighbourhood late on Saturday.

The men who entered the village gathered the mostly Muslim residents, preached to them and distributed dates, according to the Nation.

One resident told the Nation that the group preached about Islam.

Israel spent $31 billion on its military conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon in 2024, the Finance Ministry said in a report on Monday.

Between October 7, 2023 - when Palestinian militant group Hamas attacked Israel to trigger the war in Gaza and subsequent missile fire from Hezbollah in Lebanon - and the end of 2024 spending reached 141.6 billion shekels.

Total spending on defence in 2024 was 168.5 billion shekels, or 8.4% of gross domestic product, up from 98.1 billion in 2023, when defence costs were 5.2% of GDP, the report showed.
