Fergani Space’s satellite constellation begins: 100 satellites in 5 years for Turkish GPS

Fergani Uzay, founded by Turkish aerospace company Baykar’s Chairman Selçuk Bayraktar, successfully launched Türkiye’s largest domestically developed satellite, FGN-100-d1, into orbit.

FGN-100-d1 weighs 102 kg and operates in a low Earth orbit (LEO) at an altitude of approximately 510 km. It performs 15 Earth orbits daily, moving at a speed of 7.6 km/second.

Selçuk Bayraktar:

“Today, we placed our first satellite into orbit. These satellites will serve as a low Earth orbit constellation for positioning and communication services.

In five years, we aim to develop a global positioning system named Uluğ Bey, consisting of 100 satellites, entirely with our own resources. Alongside completing our satellite constellation, we will continue developing a launch vehicle capable of lifting 1.5 tons into orbit.”

The FGN-100-d1 features advanced avionics, a green propulsion engine, and indigenous software. It is equipped with triple-redundant flight computers to ensure operational reliability.

This project is seen as a critical step in strengthening Türkiye’s space ecosystem and advancing its technological capabilities.
