CNN report claimed to document the freeing of a prisoner, “Adel Gharbal,” from a secret Syrian jail after the fall of Assad’s regime.

The report showed the prisoner emerging from solitary confinement, allegedly held for three months. However, several inconsistencies and findings cast doubt on the report’s authenticity:

Verify-Sy investigations revealed that “Adel Gharbal” is actually “Salama Mohammad Salama,” known as Abu Hamza, a former first lieutenant in Syrian Air Force Intelligence.

Abu Hamza has a history of abuses, including extortion, torture, and arbitrary arrests in Homs. He was detained not for political reasons but for a financial dispute with a superior.

Despite claims of harsh detention, the prisoner appeared clean, healthy, and showed no typical signs of prolonged confinement or exposure to light deprivation.

The prison was shown empty except for him, raising questions about the setting and authenticity of the video.

Locals believe Salama has been trying to rehabilitate his image post-regime collapse, portraying himself as a victim.

The report raises concerns over whether CNN knowingly participated in reshaping his narrative or was misled.

The investigation found no official records of the prisoner’s claims, further questioning the story’s validity.
