Could politicians in European Union countries be deceiving us?

— The difference between what politicians say and what they do since the start of the war in Ukraine provides an important clue.

— Robin Brooks, Chief Economist at the Institute of International Finance, shared a revealing graph highlighting European Union member states’ exports to Central Asia and the Caucasus following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

— According to Brooks, these exports indirectly reach Russia, indicating that EU countries are bypassing the embargo through intermediary nations in these regions.

— One country that stands out on Brooks’ list is Armenia. As a key transit point between Russia and EU nations, Armenia is allegedly being used to facilitate embargo violations. But how exactly does this happen?

— Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which also includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Russia. Additionally, Armenia has trade agreements with the European Union, including the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

— This dual affiliation enables Armenia to serve as a conduit, helping Russia circumvent international sanctions.

— Brooks’ data suggests that while EU nations publicly back sanctions against Russia, they are quietly engaging in indirect trade through Armenia, undermining the sanctions they claim to support.

"All friendships are over."

— Lithuania reinforced its defenses along the border with Russia by installing anti-tank barriers known as "dragon's teeth."

— These concrete pyramids, originally developed during World War II, are strategically placed near the Queen Louise Bridge, which connects Lithuania to the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

— 600 million euros will be spent over the next decade for the project.

A local resident named Darius comments:

"We had Russian friends there when we were kids. The Russians used to visit us, too. And now, all friendships are over."
