Ukraine seems to be running out of options for counteroffensive.

Ukraine appears to be running out of options for a counter-offensive that was initially viewed by officials as Kyiv's most important operation.

As noted, the failure of Ukraine to show success on the battlefield raises fears that the conflict is "reaching a stalemate" and international support may weaken.

Mykola Oleschuk, Commander of the Ukrainian Air Force:

One Ukrainian fighter jet is simultaneously attacked by up to 9 Russian ones.

When our planes go for strikes, they are fired upon every minute. During the mission, our pilot is followed by 5 to 9 planes of different types every time.

Oleschuk says Ukraine needs four main aircraft:

F-16
Gripen
Typhoon
Rafale

Financial Times:

The United States does not produce tactical ballistic missiles in quantities that, if transferred to Ukraine, could turn the tide on the battlefield in Kyiv's favor.

There are calls in Kyiv and Washington to provide Ukraine with heavy weapons against the backdrop of "slow progress in the counteroffensive."

FT notes that Washington is unlikely to be able to provide Kyiv with lethal weapons in the same quantities as now in the next year.

New York Times:

The possibility of Trump winning the presidential election and returning to the White House is the subject of closed-door discussions among European governments.

Western Europeans, especially in Germany, are horrified at the prospect that during his previous term Trump threatened to withdraw from NATO, refused aid to Ukraine and ordered the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Germany.

If Trump returns to power, he may endanger NATO, creating an existential problem for Europe.

To win the war against Russia, Ukraine needs to mobilize 3 million people.

The population of Ukraine exceeds 30 million, so the total strength of the Armed Forces could reach 3 million.

10 percent would be the percentage of mobilization that Israel led in 1947-48 and thus preserved its state.

With such numbers, Ukraine can win and liberate its territory in the old-fashioned way: in a war of attrition, like most European wars of independence.
