💠Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC)
⚛A process or technology for producing energy by harnessing the temperature differences (thermal gradients) between ocean surface waters and deep ocean waters.
⚛OTEC uses ocean temperature differences from the surface to depths lower than 1,000 meters, to extract energy.
⚛A temperature difference of at least 20°C can yield usable energy.
⚛Oceanographic conditions in tropical and subtropical regions, where warm and salty surface water overlies colder and less salty deep water, are more suited to OTEC.
