Civil Human Rights Front strongly condemns the Hong Kong SAR Government
for invoking the Emergency Law to establish the Anti-Mask Law
Civil Human Rights Front strongly condemns the Hong Kong SAR Government led by Carrie Lam, for invoking the Emergency Law to establish the Anti-Mask Law in Hong Kong today.
The current government led by Chief Executive Carrie Lam has the lowest popularity rating and public support since Hong Kong’s handover to China. Carrie Lam and her government cabinet has not deeply reflected upon the things that led to the events happening today, and they have also not been changing their course of action to help recover the publics’ faith and confidence in the government. Instead, they have intensified its efforts to suppress the people with malevolent laws to further suppress citizens and aggravate the contradiction between society and the political power, further pushing Hong Kong into the abyss.
Hong Kong’s international reputation is based on the Basic Law to guarantee separation of powers and independence of the judiciary. The Carrie Lam government has exercised their right to directly skip legislature in order to push this malevolent law and have not learned the profound lessons during the revision of the extradition law. Unspeakable consequences will follow such dictatorship rule. Carrie Lam, Teresa Cheng and John Lee are bound to bear the eternal crime of the fall of Hong Kong by invoking the Emergency Law.
Civil Human Rights Front believes that, every Hong Kong citizen understands the use of the anti-mask law does not respond to the mainstream demands of Hong Kong society. Many citizens, including but not limit to grassroots workers, whistleblowers from different sectors and people of different sexual orientations, prefer to wear masks when they speak at public assemblies, in order to avoid discrimination against their identity and political consequence they would face. The new anti-mask law certainly suppresses the lawful right of protest among the deprived and the marginalised in this city.
Civil Human Rights Front will organize and try to apply for protests against such acts. Further details will be announced soon. Civil Human Rights Front believes that even though the police and the Appeal Board on Public Meetings and Processions will continue to oppose to our efforts in organizing lawful protests, Hong Kong people will not be fearful and back down easily.
