# INTERVIEW EXPERIENCE
Documents required on the day of interview.
> Esummon (+ID card mentioned in the registration)
> 10th certificate original (+1 photocopy) - used for DOB verification, mark-sheet usually not required
> college degree original (+1 photocopy) - provisional can work, but original need to be submitted after some time
> OBC/EWS original (+1 photocopy) - as per prescribed format
> Two passport size photographs, (donβt worry about latest)
> Donβt worry about self-attesting anything, During document verification they help you with that.
After entry
You are guided to a place where you can place your belongings, also COVID kit is provided. you are asked to wear, the provided gloves and mask, face shield is also given but need not wear during DV. You can only carry one document folder and pen after this point. (put your purse, watch, rings, metro cards, coins etc as they wonβt allow you to carry anything inside the interview room)
After that you go to next room where document verification and attendance (photo clicked and signature) will be taken.
During DV, you have to fill few forms and self attest copies, so carry a pen, also Travel allowance form is filled at this point. if there is any problem in document they will write in a form and give you a copy and tell you to send the fresh or rectified original document via Post to UPSC. 15 day time is mentioned, but it is not strictly followed.
The order of Interview is usually according to the roll number split in six and arranged in ascending order.
After DV, they give you back your documents,
One other guy (say X), whose only job is to guide you to the interview room asks you to follow him, place your document folder and pen back at the place where your belongings are placed in 1st step.
After one more security check.
You are asked to sit in a chair just outside the office of the panel member (round corridor, with a view of small garden), a table pedestal fan is there to keep you cool, also water bottle is there.
At the appropriate time, when the members are ready, X will ask you to put the face shield on as you are about to go in. (in other panel, CP asked for no face shield, so they left it outside, but in that case you have to constantly wear the mask, and members were also wearing mask)
X will open the door for you, you ask permission to come in.
You greet members and CP asks you to sit.
Chairman is sitting besides a typical office table. other 3 panel members, are sitting on small chairs 2 on your left side, and one on the right, each having small table.
You sit in a chair, which is well cushioned, with arm rests going all the way round the back to the other side.
CP after reading your DAF, asks you something, and during your answering asks to pull your mask down up-to the chin level. because of the face shield your voice sounds louder to you.
Panel members were not wearing any protective cover in my panel. there were also no glass shield anywhere (may be they got the vaccine π)
CP (BB Vyas) mobile rang in between the interview, overall he was cooperative and attentive and eager to listen. He has also a sticky note pad, from where he was asking technical questions.

Chairman- Manoj, you completed your B.Tech in 2017,
After which You did your M.tech from IIT Delhi, in water resources engineering, And as you have mentioned Now you are working in UPMRC, where are you recently posted?
you have mentioned your M.tech project on scouring analysis of Indian railways bridges, brief me about your Mtech project
What was your Btech project?
Transfer to M1
M1-
Tell me about bridge pier and abutments what are these?
What kind of forces acted on bridge piers ?
What kind of forces on abutments?
How pier and abutments is designed?
Have you ever seen construction of well foundation at site?
Which kind of foundation for pier and abutments is provided?
In place of Well foundation what other types of foundation is provided in bridges?
How do you know about which kind of piling will be provided?
Will always be their Rocky strata below the river bed?
In case of sandy strata which kind of pile will you provide?
In clay which kind of pile?
What do you mean by rest pressure? Does no force act on the wall?
What is active and passive pressure ?
Give me example of passive pressure?
For the given porosity in sand and clay which will have more water holding capacity and why?
M2-
You have done your M.tech in water resources,
What was elective courses in your M.Tech course that you studied?
Did you read about climate change or impact of climate change?
How climate change is affecting in farming sector?
How can we tackle with it?
Tell me some specific solutions for the farmers, as climate change effects has been observed from last 2-3 decades
In South India there is problem of water scarcity and at the same time there is some intensive or high flood r also occurs what should be done?
Do you aware of developed site and undeveloped site, suppose you are incharge of a undeveloped site that is to be developed what things would you consider?
(Requested to specify the context or for what purpose the undeveloped area to be developed like for industry set up? For residential or for other....)
What things do you consider to be done first as a civil Engineer?

What is Quora?
Which kind of articles?
As you stated your B.tech Project on fly ash cement replacement
Tell me which property of concrete will enhance?
Tell me some other properties benefit of fly ash
Fly ash doesn't have binding properties then why we use it ?
How is it react with cement?
Tell me about design mix?
Basic parameters and steps that how to prepare design mix?
How would you determine standard deviations for target mean?
Do we know standard deviations before testing of samples?
Can we calculate standard deviations from 3 samples?
How many sample We take at the time of testing?
How you would select water content in design mix?
What are the 'parameters' and what are the 'variable' in design mix?

Now, that ESE Interviews are almost over, we all eagerly waiting for the results, please take some time off to write a brief (or comprehensive) Transcript of your interview, stating your experiences and insights. Which will be beneficial for future candidates.
Think of the time, you began preparing for the interview, and how clueless you were about the interview, coaching institutes were of little help, in providing the answers.
First-hand account of the interview process and experience instils confidence among candidates. Freely available interview transcript gives a better understanding of the flow of the interview.
It would be nice if one could find all the information, at one place, It would save time and effort and preparation will be much more directional and effective.
Now, It is Your time to Help
Share your Transcript in the attached group.
Or you can remain Anonymous by filling this google doc

I would also like to thank all the candidates, who have already shared their transcripts, You can always add to your transcript by tagging the old one and giving the updated information.
Thank You!! & All the Best !!! πβοΈππ

Interview (23/03/2021)
chairman': T.C.A. Anant
Duration: 20-25min
Chairman:(3-4min)
College name
Work experience: about project and my role in the project
Achievements: from DAF asked what these achievements were and little bit of details
Member 1:(8-10 min)
Practical problem on slab,
Site related technical, sand drains, soil stabilization, liquid limit in detail. Keep on guiding to get the answer from his perspective
Member 2:(5-6min)
Worked in irrigation project..I said yes.
Okay....tell me what is suction head.
Max theoretical value of suction head.
Few questions on Hydrology duty delta isobar, rainfall depth methods
Then asked some random terminology...( didn't heard about it...said sorry)
Few more terminology ( some of them never heard of )
Member 3(5-6min)
All questions starts from DAF only then asked few I continuation to the answers
Work experience
QMS Discussion
Risk Management
Field test
Few more site related terminology
Conclusion: majority of questions have some relation to the information filled in DAF and after that started asking the practical problems. As I've a work experience so majority of questions start from that part only
