Goldman Sachs estimates CTAs will sell around $7.5 billion of global equities next week if markets go sideways.
But if stocks start falling over the next month, that selling could explode to $184 billion.
The warning comes as tech has already been losing momentum, with the equal-weight S&P outperforming the market-cap-weighted S&P and semiconductor stocks since May.
According to Goldman, trend signals are still mostly positive today.
But if the biggest tech companies disappoint and the market breaks lower, algorithms could turn into the biggest sellers.
Goldman Sachs estimates CTAs will sell around $7.5 billion of global equities next week if markets go sideways.
But if stocks start falling over the next month, that selling could explode to $184 billion.
