Armourphotographer:

This elegant armor was made around 1485/90 by the Innsbruck armorer Jรถrg Treytz (mentioned 1466-1499) for the later Emperor Maximilian I (1459-1519) to be used in the joust of war which was called the โ€œRennenโ€œ. During that kind of hastilude two opponents, equipped with sharp lances, were riding towards each other without being separated by a barrier and the aim was to hit a kind of shield like leather bag that was attached to the armor. This leather and fabric covered target was called the โ€œRenntartscheโ€. At the end of the 15th century the armor used for this competition was being relatively standardized. For example a special version of the sallet called โ€œRennhutโ€œ was in use as part of the typical suit of armor for the โ€œRennenโ€œ jousting. The armor is preserved as part of the @kunsthistorischesmuseumvienna (Inv: R I) collection and is on display at @weltmuseumwien mounted to a figurine that also reconstructs an impressive fabric covering like they were used with such armor during the knightly festivals.
