In the Rudolf Steiner Archive I read the following statements from his book Mammoths to Medium - Blood circulation and movement of the heart:
"I once said that the ideas held in modern science about the heart are wrong. They think of the heart as a kind of pump and that the heart pumps the blood through all parts of the body."
"That's why people today say that the heart works like a pump that pumps blood through the body. As you can see, this is a completely wrong idea.
So we have to say: 'The heart is not a pump, because the heart is moved by our astral body. So we have an astral body, and it moves the heart, or rather, since our ego is also in the astral body, we also move our heart with our ego, and in a very specific way."
He goes on to saying in - The Human Heart -:
"So also the etheric heart that we have until puberty is expelled, and we now receive our own. That is the point - we receive our own etheric heart."
"And while you have an astral formation around the etheric heart and the physical heart, the ego takes a different path. It slides into the organs of the lungs and comes closer and closer to the heart with the blood vessels that lead from the lungs to the heart."
"Likewise at puberty: in an invisible way our etheric heart is given over to dissolution, and we now get a kind of permanent etheric heart. Only this permanent etheric heart is fully capable of absorbing our activities."
