The OSS Black Reports (the CIA's forerunner) from 1944, discussed some details of the agency's infiltration into the German and Roman Catholic ranks. They published propaganda, passed intelligence, recruited, and even destroyed Hitler's post-assassination plan. The National Socialists kept watch on "Political Catholicism", a term encompassing groups responsible for subversive activities and attempts to undermine the government (as opposed to purely Religious Catholicism), claiming they used 'Jesuit sophistry' to denounce government policies as "racist nonsense" and "false nationalism" (NSDAP, 1935). On July 1, 1941, the Eisenach NS requested that its leaders voluntarily sever ties to a church or church-related organization (Köhler, 1941). Adolf Hitler remained a member of Catholic Church, and church bell rings were always included in his birthday celebrations.
