Anyone near the area of US-50 & OH-128 in Whitewater Twp is being told to evacuate, according to Hamilton Co EMA.
Around 2 p.m., Hamilton Co EMA said there is a “dangerous” chemical leak near SR-128.
The chemical is styrene, Hamilton Co EMA explained. The toxic and flammable chemical was released into the air, but it was not from a train derailment, EMA officials said.
The chemical is coming from a tank car and the leak is “slowing,” Miami Twp Fire and EMS said around 3:30 p.m.
“IMMEDIATELY GO INDOORS and stay inside until further notice. Close and seal off doors & windows, close fireplace dampers, and turn off heat,” the EMA posted on X.
The county EMA says those in the evacuation area can go to the Whitewater Twp Community Center at 6125 Dry Fork Rd for shelter.
Miami Twp has opened Miami Twp Hall on South Miami Ave for evacuees.
