Hi friends. You may have heard me mention that I am a volunteer archivist for the local historical society which means I am going through historical documents and photos.

I am currently reviewing and archiving military records and documents beginning with the French Indian Wars.

Today, I was making my way through letters written during the Civil War and found this. A letter written by a soldier to his wife. He enclosed a pressed rose bud for her.

This hit me in all my feelings. I truly have no words for the thoughts that raced through my mind when I saw that rosebud.

Something so small and beautiful. A gesture of love in the midst of such turbulence and chaos. I cannot imagine how it made her feel.

I just wanted to share.
