I was just reading up on something called "technological solutionism" which is the belief that software and technology can fix basically every issue we have. Which just isn't true at all. It's paraded by a few specific people like Peter thiel, Sam Altman, Elon musk, some of the people who happen to be the most out of touch and insulated from actual societal issues. They have written books and essays basically explaining how their concept of making a society better even if it makes it worse now is "worth the effort" and that the "ends justify the means". Like it's so ridiculously stupid, megalomaniacal, narcissistic, and out of touch. I don't even know where to start on how wrong it is. The worst part is that this belief is particularly prevalent in places like Silicon Valley, and used in a way that manipulates people into thinking they are making something good for a group, only to be screwed over or to be manipulated into delusion when that thing is used for the opposite of what it's for. Okay so i want to talk about common misunderstandings with ADHD.

As the common knowledge is, people think that ADHD is mainly just trouble with "focusing" on tasks, its commonly portrayed as someone who switches focus frequently and cant stay organized. This image is driven by a misunderstanding of how ADHD works and incorrect assumptions about how the human mind works. The common image of ADHD furthermore can be harmful and used to spread stereotypes or give plainly wrong advice on how someone with ADHDs mind works. To understand ADHD we have to dismantle common misunderstandings of how the human brain actually processes task initiation and motivation. The first idea is the idea of "willpower". Willpower is seen as ones ability to directly control their actions to achieve a goal, however the reality is that your *direct* control over your ability to initiate and perform and more of an illusion than what's actually happening in your mind. Where your consciousness resides is not where the signals to physically move your body are, your consciousness and "logical mind" are somewhat* separated from your body's main biological functions. Your decision to do something and its subsequent "signal" has to travel to other parts of your brain to physically tell the cells and receptors to generate the chemicals necessary to give you the ability to start and complete the decision. Another concept is your view of full bodily autonomy. For context, and to further the point on how your "logical you" is not sound and all controlling, your ability to eat, your emotions, thinking all takes physical energy. Thinking for example requires physical bloodflow to supply the sheer amount of energy to produce the chemicals that allow you to synthesize and understand concepts, neurotransmitters like dopamine, require ATP to be manufactured, and generating the electricity that forms the networks of what you call thinking requires a MASSIVE amount of energy. The (probably ego driven) perception that you are in direct control of your bodies ability to function when the conditions for optimal functioning are not met is entirely false. The necessary delivery of energy and production of chemicals to make those signals will result in failure of those signals to reach the neurons they need, leading to decreased awareness in situations where you are dehydrated or blood sugar is low. How you retain your memories through sleep is also an example. The difference between your short term memory and your long term memory is quite big. Short term memory, similar to learning, is neurons firing repeating patterns across the brain in waves, this is what keeps the short term memory "alive". During waking hours the brain sort of "takes notes" on the specific patterns being made, and when sleep happens (REM) the neurons literally grow appendages called dendrons, which physically connect to other neurons, forming new patterns and storing memories in physical form, this is why long term memory can last so long as it does. Go too long without sleep, the ability to store all of your memory in your brain by sending the signals back and forth become cumbersome and energy intensive, theres a limit to what you can learn while you are awake. The short explanation of how the neurons grow doesn't explain myelination or any other related processes which are also a vital step but thats besides the point. The point is, again, what you think of as "you" is not the full you, "you" are manipulated by the rest of your brain to survive, and that survival and functioning is DIRECTLY related to your ability to feed its further functioning. You are not in "direct" control in the same way you think you are, or atleast not to what you think you are (however concepts like responsibility still apply). This leads back into an understanding of mental disorders, most mental disorders have to do with the physical structure of the interaction between your conscious and unconscious.
