I bought an old usb (name brand tho) for 8 dollars and I am gonna 3d print a custom case for it. It's going to hold my EFI shell and windows PE stuff and also a grub bootloader to easily select between the 2. The reason I bought one is because all of my drives were getting old and a lot of them have issues and corruption because they are so old. In the journey of making a custom case I wasn't satisfied with the size of the PCB so I milled down the extra sides, it's now exactly 12.04mm, which is exactly within the USB connector specification so if I really tried I could make it really sleek. However 12mm w/ tolerance of +-0.10mm is slightly too big because even assuming the case was 1 wall thick on each side it would be about 0.8mm, which is wayy to big.

I decided to remake the screws that hold the tooling in place, I fucked up on 2 different screws and my final one I used a dial indicator and got within like 10 thousandths of an inch, which is horrible btw. That took 3 hours before I was finally able to mill the edges of the PCB. Images attached

You may ask why I did this, and the only reason is because if I have something I enjoy I am more likely to use and care for it.

The easiest possible was of explaining a small part of ADHD motivation
I uh also am juggling 2 more projects currently, of which one is almost complete, one of which I've been working on on and off since last November. It's the Ender 3 to CNC router conversion, It's almost done. I've had to do some weird stuff with one of the ASA parts and also redesign it from the measurements on the STL because onshape is retarded and can't really measure stls because it's scared of triangles. So that took like 3 hours measuring in the slicer and rebuilding it in cad and then it took all day getting the bearing hole sizes correct. To make sure is still somewhat sturdy I embedded a bearing in the spindle holder. The bearing (although it's not the correct type of bearing for this specific application) is used for alignment for the Z Axis rod. I might cast these parts from aluminum in the future so they are actually sturdy but that will cost money.
Apparently the firmware stuff isn't an issue at all. There's a whole thing called CNC shield which plugs directly into an arduino (I didn't know this at the time I was flabbergasted when I discovered that it just fits onto the arduino, I was mentally preparing to wire it to the pico from scratch) it's 15 dollars and you can order it with stepper drivers. Straight up whole CNC system for 15 dollars like what
