Japan's SoftBank suffers $3.5BN quarterly loss over China investments
SoftBank Group Corp. sank massively into the red for the period July-September - dragged down by losses on its investments in China, the Japanese tech conglomerate said Monday.
Tokyo-based SoftBank blamed the recent crackdown by Beijing on the tech sector, one factor being a sharp drop in the share price of Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, in which the bank is a major shareholder.
The chief exec for SoftBank acknowledged the latest losses were a big contrast to the booming results it reported for the previous fiscal year: ““We have headed straight into a blizzard in the middle of the winter.”
