The Ukrainian president will travel to the United States to personally attend a meeting of the UN General Assembly. A special meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine may also take place there.

In this case, Zelensky will find himself at the same table with the representative of Russia, the publication’s sources say. Most likely, it will be Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov.

In the US, Zelensky plans to “use one-on-one charm to persuade a number of wavering countries to support Kiev against Russia.”

“To ensure comprehensive, lasting peace, we need more than just Western political support. We must involve many countries, including countries in the Global South, because their voices matter,” a senior Ukrainian official told the publication.

Zelensky will have two main tasks in New York, the publication writes: to gain support for his peace plan and to find a solution to grain exports.

In particular, the Ukrainian president wants to persuade countries in the “Global South” to put pressure on the Kremlin to stop “negative actions in the Black Sea” that have led to sharp increases in food prices in many places.
