The color of your tongue can reveal a lot about your overall health. Here are some general insights:

Normal Tongue
Pink with a thin white coating: Indicates good health.

Abnormal Tongue Colors
Red:
-Bright red may indicate a deficiency in vitamins such as B12, folic acid, or iron.
A strawberry red tongue can be a sign of Kawasaki disease or scarlet fever.

White:
-A white coating may suggest dehydration or oral thrush (a fungal infection).
White patches that are lacy or spider-web-like can indicate lichen planus or leukoplakia, which can be a precursor to cancer.

Yellow:
Often due to poor oral hygiene, smoking, or a bacterial or fungal infection.
Can also be a sign of jaundice or liver issues.

Black:

A black, hairy tongue can result from bacterial overgrowth, smoking, or poor oral hygiene.
It can also be due to certain medications or excessive use of mouthwashes containing oxidizing agents.

Blue or Purple:
Can indicate a lack of oxygen in the blood, often related to respiratory or circulatory issues.
It can also suggest a condition known as cyanosis.

Pale or Light:
May indicate anemia or a lack of hemoglobin.

Texture and Other Signs

Smooth Tongue:
A smooth tongue can be a sign of a nutritional deficiency, especially B vitamins or iron.

Bumpy or Lumpy:
Could indicate canker sores, oral cancer, or other underlying conditions.

Fissured Tongue:
Cracks or fissures can be normal but may also be associated with conditions like psoriasis or Sjögren’s syndrome.

If you notice any persistent changes in the color, texture, or appearance of your tongue, it's advisable to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis.

On hot days like today, it is important to replace your electrolytes, which are lost when we sweat or urinate. Electrolytes are minerals (e.g., sodium, phosphate, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride and bicarbonate) that do such things as support hydration, stimulate muscle contractions (e.g. your heart beat), maintain balance between the fluids inside and outside our cells, build new tissue, maintain your blood's pH level, regulate blood pressure, etc.

You can also make your own Electrolyte Water. Here is an easy lemon-lime sports drink recipe to try at home (Yield: 4 cups)

1/4 tsp of salt (Celtic or sea)
1/4 cup of lemon juice
1/4 cup lime juice
1 1/2 cups of unsweetened coconut water
2 cups of cold, filtered water

HOMEMADE DEODORANT


Deodorant containing baking soda is the best homemade deodorant. Use equal amounts of baking soda and corn starch or use arrowroot powder to replace corn starch if the corn starch irritates your skin. Apply to your underarms by patting it on. Add coconut oil if you prefer more of a paste.
If you are sensitive to coconut oil, replace it with half the recommended portion using almond, avocado or jojoba oil.

3 teaspoons baking soda.

3 teaspoons corn starch or arrowroot powder.

2 teaspoons coconut oil to make a paste.

Your choice to add a 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to make it more effective.
