"The case is not over yet. There are still procedural issues, including collection, that need to be hammered out. However, the substantive issues have been decided and this points to an end of a potentially lengthy trial.

According to the source, while Judge Reinhart did not find Wright to be credible, he did not make a finding on whether or not Wright was Satoshi Nakamoto, bitcoin’s creator."

"An anonymous cash type system will never work. Government can always
just make it illegal. You know, government is the 800-pound gorilla, and you don’t win by walking up to the gorilla and kicking it in the nuts. It might hurt it for a little bit. And then it rips your arms off and beats you with the bloody stubs."

"My grandfather knew Prof David Rees. I attached details of work I had been doing that was based on mathematics and a system called Cocao that Prof. Rees pointed me to many years before. I told the Australian tax office about David Rees in 2009. I was discussing some of his role as I moved assets into other companies again in 2013.

Prof Rees died in August 2013.

At this point, the Australian tax office claimed that I had used Prof. Rees knowing that he would die before they could contact him. Prof. Rees gave me notes on the Asymptotic Theory of Ideals (Rees 1988). I use them today. They have been incredibly helpful in some of the work I’ve been doing. I don’t know the future. We are all mortal, and if you need something verified, do it when the person is alive. But the Australian government never really sought to prove anything. They just wanted me gone."

"With the proposed alterations to incorporate OP_CHECKDATASIG it is no longer cash. So, the simple response is that this is an attack on what Bitcoin is. Bitcoin is not about circumventing law. It was never close to being good for this purpose. It is P2P electronic cash, and it works best when used honestly."

"If the merchant detects a double spend, it is a fraud. The merchant has the legal right to detain the client in many countries and have the authorities take them off, just as is the case with shoplifters right now. This is before the client even received the goods. They can at this point be legally arrested for a larceny, and it is the same as when a person has attempted to pass a bad cheque."

"A decade ago Wright was also charged with and convicted of contempt of court. He found himself in a major dispute with an investor, Michael Ryan, who had agreed to invest $50,000 in Demorgan Information Security Systems Pty Ltd in exchange for 5% of its shares. The business arrangement contained a non-compete clause, but several months after the agreement was made Wright and his wife resigned as directors and began business in another company.

An injunction was granted by the New South Wales supreme court preventing Wright from approaching the company’s customers or providing services to a major customer, but Wright breached the court’s orders by contacting a number of clients. In a critical judgment, he was found guilty of contempt of court."

NEW SOUTH WALES SUPREME COURT

CITATION: Ryan & Anor v Wright & Anor [2003] NSWSC 1011 revised - 10/11/2003

CURRENT JURISDICTION:

FILE NUMBER(S): 4638/03

HEARING DATE{S): 30 October 2003

JUDGMENT DATE: 06/11/2003

PARTIES:
Michael Ryan and DeMorgan Information Security Systems Pty Limited
v
Craig Wright and Lynn Wright

"27 Further, having regard to the clandestine nature of the dealings between Mr Wright and the company’s customers, I am satisfied that it would not be appropriate to permit Mr Wright to deal with customers of the company on the basis that he do so as the company’s agent and for the benefit of the company. I think that there is a real risk that Mr Wright, if permitted to deal on a limited basis with customers of the company, might seek to undermine the company and its business. In this context, Mr Anthony Wilkes, a system administrator employed by the company and, perhaps, a member (see para [18] above), says in an affidavit that on 15 October 2003 he met and had lunch with Mr Geering of ASX."
