He has numerous advanced academic degrees in diverse fields, including a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Computer Science and Economics (thesis title: The Quantification of Information Systems Risk) from Charles Sturt University (completed 2014; graduated 2017), a Doctor of Theology (ThD) degree from United Theological College awarded in 2003, a Master’s degree in Statistics, and a Paralegal Master’s Degree in International Commercial Law. Dr. Wright is currently a candidate for two additional PhDs: in Law at Leicester University in the United Kingdom, and Applied Mathematics at CNAM in Paris, France.

"I needed such knowledge to develop Bitcoin. Next, some of the people there at the University of Newcastle were deeply versed in the mathematics of monetary systems. Entering the university gave me access to all of their work, so that I could research it. One of the individuals was Graham Wrightson. With Andreas Furche, they formed the Monetary Systems Engineering Research Group. I was with the University of Newcastle as a postgraduate researcher between 2005 and 2009".
