Phishing as an Initial Access Vector

Phishing is no longer just “fake emails.”
It’s a full attack chain used to break into systems; even when security is strong.

Phishing Attack Flow

Recon – Gather target info
Setup – Fake login pages, lookalike domains
Delivery – Spear phishing emails
Capture – Credentials, cookies, OAuth access
Exploit – Account access, lateral movement, BEC

What’s new / dangerous?

• AiTM (Adversary-in-the-Middle)
• Token replay
• OAuth phishing
• HTML smuggling
• QR phishing (Quishing)
• CDN / SaaS abuse

How to defend (real-world level):

• Phishing-resistant MFA
• Session monitoring (not just logins)
• Conditional access policies
• SPF / DKIM / DMARC
• Audit connected apps (OAuth abuse)
