Former FDA Director Says Americans Should Rely on "Individual Assessments" of COVID-19 Risk

🇺🇸@COVID19Up
: Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former head of the FDA, said Americans should rely on "individual assessments" of their risk from COVID-19 when making decisions about when to wear a mask or gather in certain settings, citing the "rapidly declining overall vulnerability" to the virus.

"I think it's an environment right now where we're not going to rely necessarily on public health ordinances and mandates from governors and mayors to protect us, but we're going to have to protect ourselves based on our own assessment of our risk and our own comfort," Gottlieb said Sunday on CBS.

He added that the unvaccinated, people with preexisting medical conditions and those in areas of high infection are still at higher risk. He said individuals are going to have to protect themselves based on their own assessment of their risk and their own comfort level.

"I think people may need to make individual assessments of their risk as they make judgments about what they should and should be doing, like wearing a mask in an indoor setting and also judging the setting," stated Gottlieb. SOURCE

CDC Identifies at Least 10,000 COVID-19 Cases in the Fully Vaccinated, but That's Likely a Huge Undercount

🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up
: More than 10,000 fully vaccinated people in the U.S. have experienced a "breakthrough" COVID-19 infection as of April 30, according to a new CDC study.

Among these cases, 63% occurred in females, and the median patient age was 58 years old. The agency noted, however, that the breakthrough number in the report is likely a substantial undercount.

Many persons with vaccine breakthrough infections, especially those who are asymptomatic or who experience mild illness, might not seek testing, the CDC said.

Going forward, the CDC is limiting the monitoring of people who have been infected while vaccinated. The agency is only sequencing a limited number of the cases, which has drawn concern from scientists.

The CDC said sequence data were collected from only 5% of the breakthrough infections. SOURCE

India's "White Fungus" Infections Raise New Health Concerns as COVID-19 Rages

🇮🇳@COVID19Up
: India's Health Ministry is asking pharmaceutical companies to ramp up production and distribution of antifungal medications after a new type of fungal infection was found in recovering COVID-19 patients last week.

In Ghaziabad, a city in the northern Uttar Pradesh state, as many as seven recovering COVID-19 patients have been diagnosed with "invasive aspergillosis"—a severe form of white fungus infection.

Similar cases have been detected in cities in the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra and Bihar.

White fungus infections are considered by health experts to be more dangerous than black fungus infections, called "mucormycosis." SOURCE

Trump on Wuhan Lab: Now Everyone Agrees "I Was Right"

🇺🇸@COVID19Up
: Former President Trump on Tuesday claimed vindication for his claim that SARS-CoV-2 originated in a lab in Wuhan, and defended using the term "Chinese virus" which has been criticized as racist.

"Now everybody is agreeing that I was right when I very early on called Wuhan as the source of COVID-19, sometimes referred to as the China Virus," Trump said in a statement.

Top U.S. public health officials and experts are increasingly lending credibility to the need for a deeper investigation into the origins of COVID-19 after claiming the lab leak hypothesis was "debunked" for more than a year. SOURCE

Days After Receiving COVID-19 Vaccine, 39-Year-Old British Model Dies After Falling Into a Coma

🇨🇾💉@COVID19Up
: A British fashion model based in Cyprus suffered a blood clot and died days after receiving the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in Paphos, a health official said Monday.

Stephanie Dubois, 39, had no underlying health conditions according to health officials at the hospital in the capital Nicosia, where she was hospitalized on May 14 after having breathing issues.

Dubois had a "serious thrombotic episode" after receiving the first dose of the vaccine on May 6.

On a Facebook post on the morning of May 14, she wrote: "Woke up feeling fine and then within an hour I had fully body shakes, all my joints seized and I was struggling to breathe and was cold to the bone with a persistent headache and dizziness." SOURCE

Finnish Firm Earns U.S. Patent for COVID-19 Nasal Spray Containing Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine

🇫🇮💊@COVID19Up
: Finnish pharmaceutical company Therapeutica Borealis Oy has developed a new COVID-19 nasal spray, chief developer Kalervo Vaananen told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Active ingredients of the medicine are aprotinin, hydroxychloroquine, and ivermectin, which are known as effective drugs for the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.

"This medication would not do away with the need to get vaccinated, but it would prevent people from being infected at a location where the risk exists," Vaananen said. "It can work prophylactically on short notice, and within limited time."

The company has received Notice of Allowance from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for its patent application for the spray. SOURCE

Children Don’t Need Adult Permission to Get COVID-19 Vaccine in Canada, Experts Say

🇨🇦💉@COVID19Up
: As thousands of youth aged 12 and above line up to get their COVID-19 shots, parents and guardians may be surprised to learn that they don’t have to give permission for their kids to be vaccinated.

“Many people in the public are not aware of this, almost everyone in the province assumes there is an age for healthcare consent but there isn’t,” says Kerry Bowman, a bioethicist and professor at the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Medicine. “You have healthcare workers who are not aware of this legislation either.”

Under Ontario’s Health Care Consent Act, children have control over their own healthcare decisions, unless a doctor deems them incapable. When Peel Region updated its vaccination guidance to note that minors didn’t need parental permission, it touched off a wave of comments and confusion online. SOURCE

Alabama Bans Use of COVID-19 Vaccine Passports

🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up
: Alabama Governor Kay Ivey on Monday signed into law a bill banning state agencies, schools and businesses from requiring COVID-19 vaccine passports to access services.

"I am supportive of a voluntary vaccine and by signing this bill into law, I am only further solidifying that conviction," Ivey said in a statement.

"I encourage any Alabamian who has not gotten their shot to roll up their sleeves, and if you have questions, consult with your health care provider." SOURCE

Michigan Governor Should Face Penalties for COVID-19 Hypocrisy, Argues Restaurant Owner

🇺🇸@COVID19Up
: A Michigan restaurant owner who was jailed and fined for violating COVID-19 restrictions said Tuesday that Gov. Gretchen Whitmer should face similar consequences for disobeying her own health department’s guidance too.

“I feel like all of us should be on the same page. If I have to face penalties which I went through … I think she should face the same penalties,” said Marlena Pavlos-Hackney, who owns Marlena’s Bistro and Pizzeria.

“We the people, we [are] all equal. It does not matter [that] because you’re the governor, we need to forgive you.”

The restaurateur spent four nights in jail and paid a $15,000 fine in February for violating the state’s COVID-19 restrictions. SOURCE

The CDC Has Stopped Reporting 95% of SARS-CoV-2 Infections in Vaccinated Americans

🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up
: Federal health officials have told fully vaccinated people they no longer need to wear masks or maintain social distance because they are protected, nor do they need to be tested after COVID-19 exposure, unless they develop symptoms.

But through the end of April, the CDC had received 10,262 reports of breakthrough SARS-CoV-2 infections, a number that was very likely “a substantial undercount,” according to the CDC itself.

Now, the CDC has stopped reporting SARS-CoV-2 infections among fully vaccinated people—unless they become so sick that they are hospitalized or die.

At least 995 of these breakthrough cases were known to have been hospitalized, and over 160 people died (a 1.6% case fatality rate), though not always because of COVID-19, according to the CDC. SOURCE

Mild COVID-19 Cases Can Lead to Antibody Protection for Life, Study Finds

📝@COVID19Up
: A new study has found that there is likely a silver lining to contracting COVID-19. Researchers say patients with mild cases still have SARS-CoV-2 antibodies protecting them from reinfection nearly a year later. In fact, a team at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis believes this protection will likely last for the rest of their lives.

“Last fall, there were reports that antibodies wane quickly after infection with the virus that causes COVID-19, and mainstream media interpreted that to mean that immunity was not long-lived,” says senior author Ali Ellebedy, PhD, an associate professor of pathology and immunology, medicine, and molecular microbiology, in a university release.

“But that’s a misinterpretation of the data. It’s normal for antibody levels to go down after acute infection, but they don’t go down to zero; they plateau. Here, we found antibody-producing cells in people 11 months after first symptoms. These cells will live and produce antibodies for the rest of people’s lives. That’s strong evidence for long-lasting immunity.”

Ellebedy adds that SARS-CoV-2 antibody production is naturally sky-high while people deal with the virus. After the infection clears, these specialized immune cells move to the bone marrow. Once they settle in there, they start churning out low levels of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies to help protect against reinfection. SOURCE

Victoria Considering Tougher Restrictions After Recording Just 6 COVID-19 Cases

🇦🇺@COVID19Up
: So far Victoria has held off on implementing tougher COVID restrictions, but acting premier James Merlino has warned the next 24 hours will be critical as authorities try to contain a growing Melbourne cluster.

There are 15 active locally acquired COVID-19 cases in the state—an increase of six since Tuesday afternoon.

“I want to be upfront with everyone this morning; I cannot rule out taking some further action,” Merlino said. “It’s fair to say the next 24 hours are going to be particularly critical in terms of whether we need to make further changes beyond those announced yesterday.” SOURCE

India's Natural Experiment Illustrates the Power of Ivermectin

🇮🇳💊@COVID19Up
: As those Indian States using Ivermectin continue to diverge in cases and deaths from those states that forbid it, the natural experiment illustrates the power of Ivermectin.

Cases in Delhi, where Ivermectin was begun on April 20, dropped from 28,395 to just 2,260 on May 22. This represents an astounding 92% drop. Likewise, cases in Uttar Pradesh have dropped from 37,944 on April 24 to 5,964 on May 22—a decline of 84%.

Delhi and Uttar Pradesh followed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) guidance published April 20, 2021, which called for dosing of .2 mg per kg of Ivermectin per body weight for three days. This amounts to 15 mg per day for a 150-pound person or 18 mg per day for a 200-pound individual.

The other three Indian states that adopted it are all down as well. Goa is down from 4,195 to 1,647, Uttarakhand is down from 9,624 to 2,903, and Karnataka is down from 50,112 to 31,183. Goa adopted a pre-emptive policy of mass Ivermectin prevention for the entire adult population over age 18 at a dose of 12 mg daily for five days.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu announced on May 14 they were outlawing Ivermectin in favor of the politically correct Remdesivir. As a result, Tamil Nadu's cases are up in the same time frame from April 20 to May 22—10,986 to 35,873—more than a tripling.

Although Big Pharma and Big Media have scrambled to try, they cannot explain away this natural experiment. SOURCE

Rand Paul Responds to Stephen Colbert on COVID-19 Vaccines: "Try to Ignore Your Bias"

🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up
: Senator Rand Paul, who happens to be a medical doctor, hit back at late-night talk show host Stephen Colbert on Tuesday for criticizing the lawmaker's reasoning for deciding not to get the COVID-19 vaccine, telling him to "read the science and try to ignore your bias."

Paul, who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in March 2020, said in a Sunday interview that he would not be getting vaccinated, arguing that he already has natural immunity from previously being infected.

Responding to Colbert’s commentary on Twitter, Paul shared a link to an Israeli nationwide study that the senator argued shows “natural infection confers similar immunity to the vaccine.”

Paul added, “Once you rise above the vitriol you will discover that the question of immunity for those infected naturally is a HUGE question in countries short of vaccines.”

“Should you ‘waste’ the vaccine on someone previously infected or put it to better use on an elderly person who has not been infected?”
Paul questioned. SOURCE

Biden Administration Expects the WHO to Lead Further Investigations Into COVID-19 Origins, Not U.S. Scientists

🇺🇸@COVID19Up
: White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki fielded questions from reporters on Tuesday regarding further investigations into the origins of COVID-19.

“What role does the Biden administration think U.S. scientists or CDC scientists should play in that investigation?” a reporter asked.

“The WHO would be the body that would be overseeing a transparent, independent phase 2 investigation. That’s something we have strongly supported,” Psaki said. “That would require China finally stepping up and allowing access needed to determine the origins.”

“Of course the United States would be supportive of that second stage of the investigation, but it would be led by an international body,”
she continued.

“So the U.S. wouldn’t take a leading role essentially?” the reporter asked to confirm.

“The WHO, which we rejoined when the president took office, is the body that we have been pressing and is the appropriate body for moving this investigation forward,” Psaki said. SOURCE

Trump Takes Credit for COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout: "One of the Greatest Miracles of the Ages"

🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up
: Former President Trump on Tuesday gave himself credit for the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, calling it “one of the greatest miracles of the ages.”

Trump issued a statement saying that without his administration’s help with the purchase and distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, the U.S. wouldn’t be where it's at in terms of the number of vaccinated Americans, adding that it took his team just nine months to develop a vaccine while “everybody was saying it would take at least 3-5 years.”

“New United States COVID cases, because of the record-breaking development of the vaccine and its early purchase and distribution by the Trump Administration, has hit its lowest level in more than one year, and falling fast. I want to thank all within the Trump Administration who pushed so hard for a vaccine and got it done in less than nine months when everybody was saying it would take at least 3-5 years, and probably not happen,”
Trump said in his statement. “Without the vaccine the world would be a much different place right now.”

Trump also thanked his administration and the U.S. military for their help on “Operation Warp Speed.” SOURCE

White House Partners With Tinder to Accelerate COVID-19 Vaccinations

🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up
: Mobile dating app Tinder is teaming up with the White House to ensure that people get vaccinated against COVID-19 before going out on dates. The push comes following a recent survey showing that more than half of Gen Z are only interested in dates with people who have taken the shot.

As part of the partnership, the Tinder app will locate the nearest vaccination site and recommend it to those who wish to get a shot. To that end, Tinder is embedding the vaccine locator tool from Vaccine.gov on its app.

Additionally, the dating app will allow vaccinated members to display stickers proclaiming their vaccination statuses in their profiles. SOURCE
