Malaysia Expects COVID-19 Cases to Rise Following Floods
🇲🇾🦠 @COVID19Up: Malaysian health authorities expect an increase in COVID-19 cases at various relief centres following the country’s worst flooding in years that has killed at least ten people and displaced tens of thousands, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaludin on Monday (Dec 20).
In a press conference in the parliament, Mr Khairy warned of the imminent rise in COVID-19 infections as the relief centres were considered high-risk areas when public health measures could not be implemented and complied with fully.
As of Monday (Dec. 20) a total of 181 COVID-19 cases had been detected during screening by health authorities at various relief centres, the minister said, adding that most of those affected were mostly asymptomatic or with mild symptoms, and all of them had been transferred to hospitals or other designated facilities for COVID-19 cases.
A total of 206 flood victims had also been identified as close contacts of the COVID-19 positive cases and they had also been transferred to the designated centres.
Mr Khairy said the health authorities should prepare for the possibility of an increase in cases, and he gave the assurance that the public health system had been set up to receive more patients due to the floods.

COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate for Nearly 100 Million U.S. Workers Heads to the Supreme Court
🇺🇸💉@COVID19Up: The 6th circuit Federal Court of Appeals has weighed in on the crucial mandate from OSHA that all employers with more than 100 employees must institute extreme COVID-19 controls, while providing liberalization on the condition of medical injections.
In practice, it is a COVID-19 vaccine mandate that covers vast numbers of workers, and it is likely to be expanded to cover everyone. The opinion was decided in OSHA’s favor, 2 to 1.
The decision has been appealed to the Supreme Court which will likely make the final judgement. As this case grinds through the court system, workers around the country are being fired, mandates are going into effect, and cities are segregating their populations based on their willingness to acquiesce to government’s mandated medicine.
The majority begins its decision with a chilling announcement that smacks of ideological bias.
"Recognizing that the 'old normal' is not going to return, employers and employees have sought new models for a workplace that will protect the safety and health of employees who earn their living there. In need of guidance on how to protect their employees from COVID-19 transmission while reopening business, employers turned to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA or the Agency), the federal agency tasked with assuring a safe and healthful workplace…."

Better to Cancel Christmas Events Than Grieve Later - WHO
🌎🌲 @COVID19Up: The head of the World Health Organization, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, on Monday (Dec. 20) recommended people cancel holiday gatherings as Omicron continues to spread.
"All of us are sick of this pandemic. All of us want to spend time with friends and family. All of us want to get back to normal. The fastest way to do this is for all of us leaders and individuals to make the difficult decisions that must be made to protect ourselves and others."
"In some cases, that will mean cancelling or delaying events," he continued. "But an event cancelled is better than a life cancelled. It's better to cancel now and celebrate later than to celebrate now and grieve later. None of us want to be here again in 12 months time."
The WHO chief flagged "consistent evidence" that the Omicron variant is spreading "significantly faster" than the Delta variant. Data suggest that Omicron's community transmission has a doubling time between 1.5 and three days.
Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, the WHO's chief scientist also warned that it is too early to conclude that Omicron is a milder variant and highlighted that preliminary studies suggest it is more resistant to vaccines currently used to fight the pandemic.

First American Reported to Have Died With Omicron Was an Unvaccinated Texan so Go Get Vaccinated, Health Officials Say
🇺🇸@COVID19Up: An unvaccinated man with underlying health conditions who had COVID-19 before has died with Omicron, Texas' Harris County reported on Monday (Dec. 20). It is believed to be the first known death related to Omicron in the United States.
Harris County Public Health said in a statement that the man had underlying health problems and hadn’t received any COVID-19 shots. “The individual was at higher risk of severe complications from COVID-19 due to his unvaccinated status and had underlying health conditions,” the statement read.
Barbie Robinson, HCPH executive director, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the patient’s family, and we extend our deepest sympathies... This is a reminder of the severity of COVID-19 and its variants. We urge all residents who qualify to get vaccinated and get their booster shot if they have not already.”

COVID-19 Vaccine Passports in European Union Only Valid 9 Months Without Booster Shot
🇪🇺💉 @COVID19Up: The European Commission announced on Tuesday (Dec. 21) that COVID-19 vaccine passports in the bloc would only be valid for nine months without a booster shot.
The new rule—to come into force on February 1—will be for traveling within the European Union, although the bloc's executive body recommends member states also apply it on a national level.
EU residents are recommended to receive a booster shot six months, at the latest, after they're fully vaccinated. But the certificate will be valid for three additional months as a grace period to ensure access to booster doses, the Commission added.
The validity of the COVID-19 vaccine passport after a booster shot will be extended further without a set limit, an EU official told the Reuters news agency, citing a lack of scientific evidence about the duration of protection from the booster.

Israel is Afraid of Dr. Robert Malone’s Influence on Israeli Parents Considering COVID-19 Vaccination for Their Kids
🇮🇱💉@COVID19Up: Dr. Robert Malone is noted as being one of the creators of the mRNA technology upon which some of the COVID-19 vaccines are based upon. His name can be seen on the patent here. The Pfizer shot, which is used in Israel, is also based on this mRNA vaccine technology.
Even though Dr. Malone took the COVID-19 vaccine himself, he released a video message specifically to parents warning against administering the mRNA injection to children.
It seems that Dr. Malone’s warnings about the shot for kids has made Israel’s Ministry of Health so concerned that it put out a long “debunking Dr. Malone” post on Facebook. While the Ministry of Health post tries to discredit him, a vast majority of the comments are calling out the government as lying to the public.
Ever since he went public with his concerns about the COVID-19 vaccine, it seems there has been a targeted character assassination against him, including on the internet, to discredit his connection to inventing the mRNA vaccine technology.
Check out this web archive of Wikipedia on the MRNA vaccine technology and look at the history section details about his central role as one of the inventors. Now look at that same Wikipedia entry today.
One can see quite clearly that Dr. Malone’s role has been scrubbed from the entry to rewrite history and discredit him.

Biden Announces Major Changes to COVID-19 Winter Plan
🇺🇸@COVID19Up: President Biden announced on Tuesday (Dec. 21) a suite of actions the White House will take to fight the Omicron variant, including sending half a billion at-home tests to Americans who want them starting in January and deploying military troops to help administer COVID-19 vaccines.
The Biden administration will use the Defense Production Act to ramp up manufacturing of SARS-CoV-2 testing supplies, deploy federal medical personnel and military troops to help administer vaccines, and set up 10,000 new pop-up COVID-19 vaccination clinics and federal testing sites nationwide.
Biden urged people to get vaccinated against COVID-19, saying the unvaccinated “have reason to be concerned” about Omicron's rapid spread and that the new variant is “serious, potentially deadly business” for those who haven’t gotten the shots.
The first federal testing sites will launch in New York City this week as COVID-19 cases have surged to record levels there.

“If you have been living vaccine-free, your time is up,” Mayor Lightfoot said.
“If you wish to live life with the ease to do the things you love, you must be vaccinated,” she added. “This health order may pose an inconvenience to the unvaccinated, and in fact it is inconvenient by design.”
"If you're going into that coffee shop to pick-up and go, you don't need to show proof. But if you're gonna linger, you're gonna eat that muffin, you're gonna sit down with your laptop, you gotta show proof of vaccination," she continued.

Israel is Now Offering a Fourth Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine to Triple-Vaccinated People Over 60
🇮🇱💉@COVID19Up: Israel announced on Tuesday (Dec. 21) that it will offer a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to people older than 60, amid concern about the Omicron variant.
A Health Ministry expert panel recommended the fourth shot, a decision that was swiftly welcomed by Prime Minister Naftali Bennett as "great news that will help us overcome the Omicron wave that is spreading around the world."
Although the decision is pending formal approval by senior health officials, Bennett urged Israelis to get the dose as soon as possible, saying: "My message is—don’t waste time, go get vaccinated."
The decision follows the first known death in Israel of a patient with the Omicron variant on Tuesday of a man who suffered from a number of serious pre-existing conditions."His morbidity stemmed mainly from pre-existing sicknesses and not from respiratory infection arising from the coronavirus,” according to the hospital.

Court in German Region of Lower Saxony Rules Against Discriminatory COVID-19 Passports
🇩🇪💉@COVID19Up: The Lower Saxony High Administrative Court on Thursday (Dec. 16) overturned the implementation of COVID-19 restrictions, dubbed the 2G rule, in the retail sector. Retailers all over Germany have brought lawsuits opposing the 2G rule.
The 2G rule highly restricts those without a COVID-19 passport, who are not allowed into many shops, restaurants, and cultural events.
On Thursday (Dec. 16) a court in Lower Saxony halted the implementation of the rules affecting retail. The court argued that the restrictions were discriminatory.
“The judgment in Lower Saxony makes it clear that the 2G regulation is not a legal sure-fire successor for large parts of the retail sector,” said HDE (German Trade Association) managing director Stefan Genth of the German press agency.
The 2G rule in retail has been suspended for the time being.

NBA Commissioner on League Not Shutting Down: “The Virus Will Not Be Eradicated and We Have to Learn to Live With It”
🇺🇸🏀@COVID19Up: NBA commissioner Adam Silver has no plans to suspend its season as COVID-19 surges through the league.
"No plans right now to pause the season," Silver said in an interview on Tuesday (Dec. 21). "We have of course looked at all the options, but frankly we are having trouble coming up with what the logic would be behind pausing right now.
"As we look through these cases literally ripping through the country, let alone the rest of the world, I think we're finding ourselves where we sort of knew we were going to get to over the past several months, and that is this virus will not be eradicated, and we're going to have to learn to live with it. I think that's what we're experiencing in the league right now."
Silver said that the omicron strain is "beyond dominant" within the league at the moment, something the NBA can track as it has the ability to sequence every positive test it receives from its players, coaches and staff members around the league.
"We're up around probably 90% of the positive cases we're seeing right now are omicron," Silver said.

Thailand Reimposes Mandatory Quarantine as Concerns Grow Over Omicron
🇹🇭🦠 @COVID19Up: Thailand on Tuesday (Dec. 21) decided to immediately reimpose a mandatory quarantine for visitors and suspend a “test-and-go’’ scheme for fully vaccinated arrivals as concerns grow over the Omicron variant, the government said.
The government also announced the suspension of “sandbox’’ programs that allow visitors to remain and move around specific locations, except for the resort island of Phuket, where it will stay in effect.
Visitors will have to undergo hotel quarantine for 10 days, or 14 days if they are unvaccinated.
However, 200,000 travellers who already submitted applications to enter the country will be allowed to visit quarantine-free, a government spokesman said, adding that a second PCR test would now be required. The decision will be reviewed on January 4.

Philippines Cuts COVID-19 Booster Shot Interval to Three Months
🇵🇭💉 @COVID19Up: The Philippines' health ministry on Tuesday (Dec. 21) halved the wait time for a COVID-19 vaccine booster to help prevent the spread of the more infectious Omicron variant after detecting three imported cases.
Adults can receive a booster dose at least three months after the second shot of a two-dose vaccine, cutting the six-month gap. Recipients of a single-dose vaccine can get a booster shot after two months, the health ministry said.
"We are exploring all possible options to safely mitigate the effects of more transmissible variants of COVID-19," Health Secretary Francisco Duque said in a statement.
The Philippines has received more than 192 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines, and fully inoculated roughly 44.2 million of its 110 million population, government data show.
COVID-19 cases have fallen to an average of 378 a day in December from the peak of 18,579 daily in September.
