How useful is IMEI spoofing on modern Android?
Many people think that changing the IMEI through Zygisk / LSPosed can fully change a device’s identity, but the reality is a bit different.
On newer Android versions, access to the IMEI is heavily restricted. Most normal (non-privileged) apps can no longer read hardware identifiers like they used to, and Android has added more limitations around sensitive device information.
Even if you spoof the IMEI at the framework/API level, it usually only changes what applications see — not what the modem and mobile network actually use.
The real network path is:
App → Android Framework → Radio HAL → Modem → Carrier
Spoofing at the app/framework layer usually does not reach the modem or baseband.
So IMEI spoofing alone usually:
does not restore mobile signal
does not change the real modem IMEI
is not a complete device identity change
Nowadays, for many scenarios, other factors matter more:
Device fingerprint
Build properties
Play Integrity
Hardware-backed attestation
Service-specific identifiers
But the important question is:
What is your actual goal with IMEI spoofing?
Because the problem you are trying to solve may not be related to IMEI at all, and there might be a different solution.

I should mention the following points. Do not use any Lsposed/zygisk modules (HMA); the Zygisk version is safer for your games, as using others may result in an account ban. I no longer guarantee any other Zygisk modules for use. Also, read the notes carefully when using COPG. The security of the GOT hooking method was very low, so it was removed. The new method is called COW and offers much higher security, but do not change the default settings without consulting the developer; otherwise, any account ban is your own responsibility. Even if I make a mistake that causes your account to be banned, there is nothing you can do about it, but my goal is to ensure no one is harmed by my projects. The COW method is new and I have not yet tested it myself, so if your game is very important to you, do not take the risk. Changing the Android ID also carries a risk due to technical reasons, but since there is no suitable tool on the internet to do this without a reboot while maintaining this level of security, this capability has been added. Additionally, the goal of COPG now extends beyond games to include applications, so this capability has been added.

For unsafe spoofing methods, I might switch to LSPosed. I can do it with COPG alone, but that would just be reinventing the wheel when a solution already exists.

Also, users should know that LSPosed hacks are unsafe.
