Only 2.5 Months left for CA Finals Exam still thinking how to approach them

Don't worry let's break it into a step by step process

Paper 1 - Financial Reporting

A) Tips you must follow before Exams

1) Refer to the teacher which includes ICAI Study Material, MTP, RTP & Past year paper in their classes

2) Though there are a large number of topics, however, almost all topics are easy to understand and can be easily retained,.

3) Try to Revise all subjects at least twice.

4) Write at least 1 Mock test - But why?

FR is the first paper so we usually write slowly and neatly without considering the fact that we have time constraints as FR paper is always lengthy. As a result most of the students are able to attend 80-85 marks for paper resulting in 45-50 marks only.

So 1 thing that I bluntly say to everyone is that - write as quickly as possible with normal level of presentation, because it's a professional exam and not some sort of Drawing exam.

B) Tips you must follow while writing an exam

1) In the first 15 minutes try to identify all the questions that you will attend along with the sequence in which you will attend.

2) Usually most students read the 1st compulsory question which is from Business Combination or Consolidation and try to attempt the same and most of time Balance Sheet does not tally resulting in Frustration and loosing confidence at starting of exam only.

So try to attend those questions first which are easy and can fetch you good marks.

-> MCQ, Time Limit, and Penalties(Only SEBI )Summary by CA Hemant Somani Sir.

-> Revision Videos by Shubham Singhal Sir

By focusing on these materials, you can maximize your chances of passing the exam even with limited preparation time. Good luck!

IMPORTANT TIPS FOR EXEMPTION SERIES
-Subject 5 IDT
1) Keep ITC on last preference, whether it is first reading or revision or exam
2) Module is very good conceptually but it is not for last 1.5 days. Either make your own notes or refer any good faculty's short notes(I have referred summary of Yashwant Mangal sir)
3) Knowledge of provisions is not enough. It is the practice of questions which will help you fetch exemption in IDT
4) No need to remember section no. /entry no. /exact language of provision
5) Please do not ignore theory chapters of GST(which many people think are irrelevant) since direct questions will be asked from them.If you leave ITC, these chapters will help you to compensate very well.
6) There are many irrelevant questions. Start marking questions which you have to refer 1.5 days before exam.
IMPORTANT TIPS FOR EXEMPTION SERIES
Subject 2- AFM
1) Question Bank of Ajay Agarwal and 2 latest RTP is enough.

2) For theory, just cover chapter 1,2,6 and 14 of module.

3) Main answer is to be solved as per icai method. Working notes can be solved as per any method.

4) Try to understand the formulas but if you are not getting something just learn it without logic and move ahead.

MUST DO CHAPTERS LIST SERIES FOR EXEMPTION
-SUBJECT
2 AFM

1) DERIVATIVES
2) PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT
3) MERGERS & ACQUISITIONS
4) SECURITY VALUATION
5) FOREX(Atleast see basic sums, rather than leaving entire chapter)

PRO TIP-Don't go in much depth of the topics. Solving module and last 2 RTPs are enough for November 2024.

Tips To Remember During Revision

1. Follow ABC analysis for the revision sequence but don't leave any chapter based on ABC. Start with small & easy chapters of category A then move to difficult chapters.

2. Whenever you revise the subject, don't solve all the questions from study material or question bank. Follow below approach

Cancel the same or similar question

Cancel the easy question which you have solved correctly in first try without any

Mark the important or difficult question where you made mistake for next revision.

3. There is no need to solve all questions by hand during revision as it will consume lots of time and you may not able to revise all the chapter instead follow below approach for smart revision

Read the question

Think of the first step you will do to solve the question

Calculate the values for the first step in calculator, (if question is small then calculate the final answer directly on calculator)

Match the answer of first step with ICAI answer and continue the process for next step and solve the entire question

This way you can solve question faster and you will know ICAI method as well since you have verified the ICAI answer.

4. Note down all the mistakes you have done while solving question in a mistake register and refer those mistakes next time before you start solving practical ans

5. For writing practice,
Refer the previous attempt papers and do solve some random Qns by hand

Do give 1 MTP and

6. Refer the theory & important formulas from last day revision notes at the end of each revision and do revise them on the exam day as these takes less time and gives you 12-15 marks in exams.

AVOID THIS MISTAKE
I have seen people studying one subject and thinking about another.
Please don't do this mistake.
By doing this, you are not only getting tensed about that other subject, but also you are losing your focus from the first one.
