What is her post-tax annual interest, and her approximate real post-tax return on the amount invested?
Answer: C

Why it's a trap: Interest = 2.5% × ₹6,00,000 = ₹15,000. After 20% tax, she keeps ₹12,000, which is a 2.0% post-tax return. But the question asks for the REAL return, so subtract inflation: 2.0% − 3.5% ≈ −1.5%. Her interest is not keeping up with prices. B stops at the nominal return, D forgets tax, and A forgets both.
🪤 CA Final Trap · FR · Diluted EPS

Godavari Polymers Ltd., Rajahmundry, has 20,00,000 equity shares and a profit after tax of ₹50,00,000. It also has 5,000 8% convertible bonds of ₹1,000 each, each convertible into 40 shares. The tax rate is 25%, and the average market price of a share during the year was ₹20.
Answer: B

Why it's a trap: Add back the bond interest AFTER tax: 8% × ₹50 lakh = ₹4,00,000, less 25% tax = ₹3,00,000. Diluted EPS = ₹53,00,000 ÷ 22,00,000 shares = ₹2.41. The ₹20 market price is bait: average market price matters for options and warrants, not convertibles. D ignores the bonds because the conversion price (₹25) is above the market price, A forgets the interest add-back, and C adds it back before tax.
🪤 CA Final Trap · AFM · Options

Ms. Kavya of Indore bought a 3-month option with a strike price of ₹500, paying a premium of ₹30. At expiry, the share was trading at ₹620, and her option lapsed.
What kind of option was it, and what is her profit or loss per share?

What kind of option was it, and what is her profit or loss per share?
Answer: C

Why it's a trap:
A call with the share at ₹620 against a ₹500 strike would be exercised, not left to lapse. The only option worthless at ₹620 is a PUT (the right to sell at ₹500 when the market pays ₹620). It lapses, and the buyer loses only the premium: ₹30. A assumes "price went up, so it's a call in profit".

🪤 CA Final Trap · Audit · Who can sign?

A CA firm in Bhopal lets its audit assistant sign these on the firm's behalf:
(i) audit queries raised during the audit
(ii) a letter forwarding the draft financial statements to the client
(iii) a turnover certificate for the client's bank
(iv) the memorandum of physical cash verification
Which of these can be delegated without breaching Clause (12)?

(i) and (iv) only

(ii) and (iii) only
Answer: A

Why it's a trap:
The Council lets a firm delegate routine documents that carry no professional opinion or authentication. That covers audit queries, letters forwarding drafts and cash verification memos. A turnover certificate IS authentication, so only a member can sign it. B is the trap: (ii) sounds like signing financial statements, but it's only a covering letter.

🪤 CA Final Trap · DT · Gift to daughter-in-law

On 1 June 2024, a year after his son's wedding, Mr. Raghavan of Madurai gifts ₹15 lakh by cheque to his son's wife, Divya. She puts it in a fixed deposit that earns ₹1,05,000 interest in FY 2025-26.
Answer: D

Why it's a trap: Two rules, one after the other. A father-in-law is a "relative" (lineal ascendant of the spouse), so the gift is exempt under section 56(2)(x). But section 64(1)(vi) clubs income from an asset transferred to a son's wife without adequate consideration into the transferor's income. B is the trap: the FD is in Divya's name, but the interest is taxed in Mr. Raghavan's hands.
