BREAKING--SERIES OF RAPID BLOWS TO WEST TEXAS AGRICULTURE: April 10, 2023, a dairy farm in Dimmitt, TX—about 60 miles southwest of Amarillo—exploded, killing ~18,000 dairy cows. It was one of the deadliest disasters for cows in history, wiping out 3% of the dairy herd in Texas. February 27, 2024, wildfire in same region, burned over 1 million acres, killed 7,000 cattle. Cause of the fire remains unknown. April 1, 2024, TX HHS reported Avian Influenza in Texas Panhandle dairy worker.
