I helped a man climb, only to realise that I too reached the top. In his struggle, I lent my hand, and in doing so, I discovered my own strength. The path I cleared for him was the same path beneath my feet.
What I thought was his ascent was also my rising.
For when we lift another, we are lifted with them.
At the summit, I stood beside him, and I saw the truth:
that no climb is ever solitary, and no victory belongs to one alone.
By raising another,
I had unknowingly raised myself.

Sometimes I hear of people who have been retired.. 15.. 20... 30 years

I can't even imagine sitting on my ass that long and "enjoying life" by being as slovenly as possible whilst trying to live off government entitlements and the compound interest of my youth

Sounds like hell.

You can do more than you think you can do, and what you think you can do, you can learn to do better.

Self-perception is often not properly calibrated with capability.
