You gotta admit, it got a certain mood to it. A new kind of shabby chic

Oh dear, this place is the gift that keeps on giving.

This newspaper clipping dates from around March 1949. Before the first federal election of the newly founded Federal republic of Germany in the western occupation zones.
There was a hefty debate about which voting system to adopt. The CDU/CSU heavily pushed for a first pass the post system. Which would've eliminated all but two parties. Thank Fortuna, they didn't get away with that. They've always been full of shit.

Day 35
Some people have never tasted the harshness of life. They've been living in a bubble, one that protected them from reality. People that think they can get their way with threats and half-assed letters of jumbled legalese.
It looks like it's lawsuit time :/

I wish I could go back to posting electronics stuff. Sorry for turning the lab channel into a renovation diary. Once all this is over, I'll be posting some good stuff, I promise. Hope you'll stick around!
We need to re-evaluate the whole situation now. The structural engineer gave us doubt that the place is going to be ready any time soon.
We'll carry on for now though, simply because we must.

These steel beams carry the balcony. They aren't fixed with concrete, which is why the structural engineer assumes, that they only carry the balcony and nothing else, with the opposing wall providing the necessary counter weight.

He said, at nearly a hundred years old, they have all right to be done.
In which case, the balcony needs to go in its current form.
A replacement could be build with steel supports on the outsides, or new bars on the insides, which would mean ripping open the floor in both the kitchen and living room.

The balcony itself isn't the real issue.
The whole place rests on wooden beams, nearly a hundred years old.
Now, consider that the kitchen had water ingress, both from the balcony and that leaky pipe.

Smells of poop. There's a pooper behind the wall
Not to mention this. If the pooper has been leaky again, it could've affected the beams there, too.
Maybe the whole bathroom floor needs to go because the floor fill underneath is damp with poop water.

We've ordered this stuff for the kitchen. About four times as expensive. Curious what difference it makes
Lil test run with this wallpaper.
This works the other way around, you put the glue onto the wall, not the wallpaper. So. Much. Easier.
I guess you really want to paint the wall first with some foundation paint :(
And you also want a glue that does not leave black residue

I'll let this dry until tomorrow. Then it gets a layer of the latex paint. I'm curious how much will even be visible underneath
