Remember this bit? Where the wall was moist and moldy around the tap and the floor gone too?
Yeah turns out, it wasn't the tap that's leaky, it's the pipe inside the wall.
Ryn's beautiful wall.

Actually, a good thing for the landlord. His insurance got to pay for the new flooring now

Chat I'm tired. Tell me what FTTH provider to pick for that. 1&1, Vodafone, Telekom? Self-hosting at home, good peering, reliable, and decent support if something goes off the rails. Yes, we still haven't made a decision yet. There's also cable.
So, this is a Telekom line. Available providers are Telekom, 1&1 and Vodafone.
I want
- something reliable
- not get utterly frustrated because the peering is complete ass (looking at you, Telekom)
- halfway decent support if stuff goes wrong (looking at you, Vodafone)
- nice to have are some telephony options to play around with
but the absolut hart requirement is:
- public ipv4
- being able to dial home, so no blocked ports
dynamic ip is fine with me, an option to go static would be cool, but probably out of the question anyway

I got to be honest, I have no capacity to search online forums for people's gripes. I have to offload that to people who know these things.
LLMs are saying that:
Peering:
- Telekom has dogshit peering, even in 2026
- 1&1 might use the Telekom backbone, so peering could be ass too, or they might use the Versatel backbone, in which case, it's fine
- Vodafone had major issues recently
Self-Hosting:
- Telekom are the best for self-hosting, real dual stack, no CGNAT/DS-Lite
- 1&1 defaults to CGNAT/DS-Lite, but people say you can call them and they switch you to dual stack
- Vodafone defaults to CGNAT/DS-Lite as well, and on top of that port forwarding with CGNAT does not work, and you got to be lucky to be switched over to dual stack (Kulanz only, can be switched back at any time)
Reliability:
- the connection itself is all Telekom here, always has been
Support:
- Vodafone is AI agents all the way down
- 1&1 okay-ish
- Telekom S tier
